STORY

Today, in London and around the world, we are seeing a wide range of Japanese goods and things, such as sushi, manga, karate and design. I am proudly Japanese and my wish is to bring the beauty of our unique culture to the world. With this wish in mind, YUZU CONSULTING was launched in 2023. YUZU CONSULTING accommodates the desire to learn about and experience Japanese culture and gastronomy in all forms. From individual consulting, lessons, workshops and parties, corporate training and events to accompanied wellness retreats to off-the-beaten-path in Japan, we offer a unique and unforgettable experience encompassing authentic Japanese expertise. Regarding the name YUZU CONSULTING, yuzu is a citrus fruit that has been loved in Japan since ancient times and can be said to be "the spiritual home of the Japanese". For more than a thousand years, the Japanese have enjoyed yuzu by sight, scent, taste and touch. Born and raised by parents who loved Japanese and world gastronomy and the tea ceremony, I have always enjoyed yuzu. As well as the juice, the Japanese use the peel as a Japanese confectionery and sometimes grate the peel to enjoy the aroma and to add colour to their plates. Rather than being consumed only as a fruit, the yuzu is an indispensable accent to enhance dishes, as a condiment, sauce, confectionery or drink. It also has all kinds of healing properties, which the Japanese enjoy and incorporate into their daily life.  Since ancient times, there has been a Japanese tradition of yuzu baths, in which yuzu is floated in the wooden bathtub on the winter solstice. Every year on the winter solstice, my parents prepared a yuzu bath for me. Nowadays, yuzu is used not only in yuzu baths, but also in aromatherapy and cosmetics. Yuzu is such a citrus fruit for the Japanese that when they hear the word "yuzu" and see yuzu, they feel relaxed and healed! Similar to the way that the Japanese enjoy every single of morsel of the yuzu fruit, my hope is that others can also be inspired by the way that the Japanese interpret things and view life. This is how we decided to name our services YUZU CONSULTING.

Target Audience

Kumi provides a fascinating, stimulating and enjoyable workshop exploring the Japanese values-driven culture. The workshop was the perfect afternoon session to bring the staff together to reflect on the values of my company as well as providing fun activities to work on as a group. Kumi takes great care over the preparation of the workshop, which is reflected in her thoughtful and inspiring presentation. We had a great deal of fun practising calligraphy, making origami cranes and enjoying a traditional tea ceremony. A thoroughly enjoyable workshop which acts as a good platform for further exploration of the corporate values and culture.

Kumi meets various requirements of individuals who have enthusiasm to learn and experience Japanese culture, art and gastronomy in the U.K., Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia. Services include consultations for private and corporate parties with Japanese culture and gastronomy, assisting in communication with Japanese clients, providing personal training about Japanese business protocols as well as accompanying families or individuals on an unforgettable trip to Japan. Kumi has an immense passion and mission to meet any inquiries regarding Japan, Japanese culture and gastronomy.

Kumi is providing workshops for London prep schools, senior schools and communities. For schools, Kumi teaches Japanese Culture & Art as After School Programme teacher and offers workshops, seminar and talk.

Kumi is also supporting schools and corporations who would like to do charities for children and/or adults in need by providing a half day out programme for them to share their experience and learn together with children and/or adults in need.

I was an advisor for NPO Family House, one of the oldest and well established NPOs in Japan, and I am applying my experience there to communities in the UK with a concept of Japanese culture. Family House began its activities in Tokyo, Japan in 1991 in order to offer accommodations for families of children with chronic life-threatening and life-shortening illnesses who have come from rural areas to large hospitals in Tokyo for their treatments.

I strongly believe that not only monetary donations but also getting involved in charities by actually using their hands and bodies with empathy is extremely important. My childhood memory of visiting old people's houses from school is still fresh in my memory, particularly communication with one old lady of dementia, and has been becoming
a strong motivation for my community services.

My interactive learning workshops across generations provide wonderful opportunities for both elderly and children to learn about Japanese culture together and share their experiences with people in need.
